The Interplay of Artistic Form, Political Pursuit and Ethical Value: A Review of A Study of Lawrence Durrell

Abstract: Xu Bin's monograph A Study of Lawrence Durrell establishes a critical paradigm of literary ethical criticism in his research on Durrell's life and works. The paradigm offers an observation of the interplay of artistic forms, political pursuits and ethical value in Durrell's works. Moreover, it reveals the influence of environment on the author's ethical identity. The monograph provides a panoramic survey of Durrell's travel writing and an interpretation of the political significance of his works.
