中国式“务虚”——从《法国作家看中国》透视法国视域下的中国形象

内容摘要: 《法国作家看中国》一书中辑录了启蒙运动以来至今,法国作家对中国文化各个方面的特点的总结。而本文认为这些貌似无关的特点几乎都可以归因于同一个民族性格:“务虚”。中国人不管是在审美趣味上,社会生活中,还是个人精神世界里,都表现出一种对凌驾于客观对象、具体目标和切实效益之上的纯理念的追求。在以米修为代表的不少法国作家眼中,中国人都呈现出这种既善于操纵象征符号,同时又受到象征符号支配操纵的形象。本文将对这种务虚性格做出具体分析,力图以一种异质文化互证的视野,同时呈现出它在西方人眼中的怪诞性,和在本民族文化中的合理性。

Abstract: According to many of the French writers, there's an adhesion to abstract conceptions in the Chinese culture. We can observe in their aesthetic tastes, social activities, and spiritual lives a devotion to abstract values and a neglect of real effects and of concrete benefits. What we propose to examine here are the expressions of this “Chinese adhesion”, as well as how strange they are in the eyes of Westerners, and why they approved reasonable for Chinese people.
