Abstract: Yves Bonnefoy is considered one of the greatest contemporary French poets and critics As a poet, he is primarily concerned with “the particular being,” and he tries to grasp or verify the meaning of life in his own way. As a critic, his first priority is always the need to figure out how a poet or artist should deal with the relationship between artistic creation and personal existemce. He was strongly influenced by Arthur Rimbaud when he was keenly reflecting the true nature of poetry. Initially, Bonnefoy was drawn into surrealism by Rimbaud, but eventually he walked away from it because of him and developed his own poetics. In modern consciousness, we are already alienated from the real world. Poetry, as well as other artistic practices, should play a dutiful role in restoring our relationship with the world. With a focus on key terms like “real life”, “real place”, “rediscovering love”, “rediscovering hope”, “reinventing language,” and “reinventing presence,” this article attempts to discuss how he has inherited Rimbaun’s ideas on poetry’s function in changing life, the insightful conception of the world, and the courage of discarding transcendence.

Key words: Bonnefoy, Rimbaud, poetry, influence
