Subverting and Surpassing Traditional View—An Exploration of Gaze Mode in Colleen McCullough's Novels

Abstract: In contemporary society and culture, male is usually regarded as the subject of gaze while female the object. Colleen McCullough, a famous Australian writer, subversively explores the gaze mode in her novels. She discovers the changes of the subject of gaze in modern society; elucidates the changes and new significance of the gender beauty ignored by the traditional gaze mode, also comments on the new challenges brought by the new gaze mode.
