Abstract: A complete Chekhoviana should be constructed from both positive and negative sides. In the history of Russian literature, Antichekhoviana was particularly typical in Russian Silver Age, and cultural leaders at that time showed a collective mood against Chekhov. Annesky, Akhmatova, Merezhkovsky, Gippius, etc. were the chief representatives of antichekhovians. The analysis from the perspective of literature criticism, aesthetic paradigm, social judgement, spirit value reveals deep reasons why literary elites of Silver Age rejected Chekhov's heritage. As a result, it not only helps to comprehend the characteristics of Chekhov's works, but also reflects the theme and the aesthetic appeal of Silver Age.

Key words: Antichekhoviana, Silver Age, A. P. Chekhov
