Subversion of Classical Ethical Paradigm in Goethe's Iphigenia in Tauris

Abstract: Ethical selection has to be based on Ethic Self-Confidence and Ethic-the Ability of Truth, and the classical historical context provides the possibility for ethical selection. Forced marriage is a representative context in the European classical literature, in which the characters who are forced to marry must make a choice based on their ethical ideas. Ethic Self-Confidence and Ethic-the Ability of Truth play a pivotal role in deciding way of settlement of disputes. Those classical templates for ethic frequently employ force to settle disputes by the law of the jungle. The heroine in Iphigenia in Tauris of Goethe uses moral exhortation to settle disputes successfully. Iphigenia's image sets a new ethical template.
