Abstract: Albeit allegedly anti-Romanticism, Anglo-American New Criticism in its critical practice presents a much more complicated and complex scholarly landscape that reciprocates with Romantic poetry. On the one hand, Romantic canons greatly inspired the New critics in formulating their theoretical polemics. On the other hand, New critical close reading (even misreading) reciprocally threw some light on the oft-overlooked subtleties of Romantic poetry, and thus enabled us to reevaluate the English Romantic literature.

Key words: Anglo-American New Criticism, English Romanticism studies, reciprocity
