Abstract: Ethical Literary Criticism is a critical approach to literature created by contemporary Chinese scholars in 2004 in their efforts of integrating Western ethical criticism with Chinese virtue criticism. Considering ethical selection as a theoretical foundation, it holds the view that literature is a product of morality and focuses on the discussion of ethical issues with their educational functions as a task of literary criticism. The paper addresses the strong link between Ethical Literary Criticism and Marxist Ethics in the aspects of political awareness and moral responsibility. While Ethical Literary Criticism is based on Marxist Ethics, it contributes to the rich resources for the study of Marxist Ethics and promotes the scholarship on Marxist literature and art. Also, Ethical Literary Criticism could be considered a great achievement in the Chinese research on Marxist-Leninist theory on literature and art in the past one hundred years.

Key words: Ethical Literary Criticism, Marxist Ethics, choice of ethics, a product of morality, the discussion of ethical issues, educational functions
